The Crown Prince of Ajman reviewed the plans of the airport which is being constructed in the Al Manama area and includes arrival and departure lounges, hangars and cargo handling.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Ammar said he was impressed by the interior and exterior designs of the airport, which will launch in 2018, explaining that the green building will be eco-friendly, in implementation of Ajman Vision 2021, and will support the emirate's future plans to boost its economy and tourism.
When completed, the new Ajman International Airport is expected to handle around one million passengers a year.
Ajman is one of the seven emirates constituting the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With an area of just 260 square kilometers (100 sq mi), Ajman is the smallest emirate by area. Its seat of government is Ajman, which is bordered on its north, south, and east by Sharjah.
Located along the Persian Gulf, Ajman also controls Masfut, a small, inland exclave that is primarily agricultural. Approximately 95% of the population of the emirate resides in the city of Ajman, which forms part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area.
Ajman has experienced massive development and a construction boom in recent years.
