After launching a range of gas-guzzling supercars over the past few weeks, Dubai Police have decided to turn over a greener leaf with their latest launch - this eco patrol vehicle.

Head of Dubai Police Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan bin Tamim himself got behind the wheel to test the electric car and approved them to join the force (photo).

“The car will work as a Police patrol as it can help us access narrow and closed-off places to support the Police in securing the city and making a safer environment. We can use it in areas where there are events, and traffic Police can drive them in tourist areas,” he said.

The environmentally friendly car was presented to the Police Force by Dubai-based company S S Lootah.

“We are always keen to use new technology. Using these eco cars in our patrols shows our intention to reduce pollution and CO2 gas, enhance health and cut noise,” Tamim added.

He continued: “Dubai Police is working for a safe, clean, attractive environment. These eco cars have been tested and reports made by our engineers before approving them.”

The announcement of the new eco cars comes after the force rolled out a Dhs15 million supercar fleet consisting of a Dhs11 million Aston Martin, Mercedes SLS, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari.

Officers have also promised that a Bugatti will be added to the collection in the coming weeks. Police said the supercars will patrol popular tourist hotspots such as JBR and Downtown near Burj Khalifa, as well as heritage sites, to show off how “classy” Dubai is.

Last year Tamim launched another green initiative, the planting of one million trees around Dubai.
