Bahrain will introduce face and eye recognition technology at the border, an Interior Ministry official said.

He told MPs during their weekly session that specialist companies from Japan and France were advising on the project, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN).

He said Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa gave the parliamentary proposal the go-ahead even before MPs voted in favor of it on Tuesday.

“We are currently working with the Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Central Informatics Organisation to establish databases and place new systems and machines to help us in implementation,” he said.

The new system is intended to stop blacklisted expatriate workers from entering Bahrain again on false documents.
