UTC Aerospace Systems has been selected by Qatar Airways to supply the wheels and carbon brakes for its fleet of 43 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The company will provide the equipment through its Landing Systems facility in Troy, Ohio.
Qatar Airways, the global launch customer of the A350 XWB, accepted delivery of the commercial plane during a ceremony at Airbus' headquarters in Toulouse, France, on Monday 22 December 2014.
The A350 XWB carbon brakes use proprietary DURACARB® carbon heat sink material which has exhibited superior brake life performance on other in-service programs thereby creating significant cost savings over the life of the aircraft for our customers through fewer brake removals and associated maintenance and overhaul activity. UTC Aerospace Systems is the first wheel and brake supplier certified on the A350-900 program.
“UTC Aerospace Systems is proud to support A350 launch customer Qatar Airways. We look forward to being a significant contributor to Qatar Airways' future and its continued success,” stated Jim Wharton, Senior Vice President, Landing Systems.
Qatar Airways is the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar. The airline operates a hub-and-spoke network, linking over 125 international destinations across Africa, Central Asia, Europe, Far East, South Asia, Middle East, North America, South America and Oceania from its base at Hamad International Airport, using a fleet of more than 100 aircraft.
Qatar Airways Group employs more than 31,000 people, of which 19,000 work directly for Qatar Airways. The carrier has been a member of the Oneworld alliance since October 2013, the first Gulf carrier to sign with one of the three airline alliances.
