GACA Signs MoUs in Smart Flight Technology with Huawei, Microsoft, Oracle

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei in the field of smart flight technology, with the aim of joint cooperation in providing and evaluating proposed smart aviation solutions. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the activities of the Global Tech Conference, LEAP, which concluded in Riyadh last week.

The MoU was signed on behalf of GACA by the Director General of Technology and Digital Transformation, Eng. Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Shaya, and on behalf of Huawei by its general manager, Tao Ping.

The cooperation includes providing, evaluating and selecting smart aviation solutions, the possibility of participating in passenger services projects, operating airports, cloud services, networks and data center. This in addition to cooperation in the field of development, training and the provision of the latest innovative technologies in the field of information and communications technology.

Meanwhile, Huawei Consumer Business Group has opened the new company store in Riyadh, which is considered the biggest international main store, in the presence of Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, the President of Saudi Esports Federation; Minister of Investment, Eng. Khalid Al-Falih; Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha; President of Huawei Consumer Business Group - Middle East and Africa, Pablo Ning; CEO of Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia Eric Yang and senior executive directors, on the sidelines of the international technological Conference “LEAP”.

The area of the store is over 2,000 square meters with a simple design, where visitors of the Huawei store will be able to enjoy a full rich experience with overwhelming offers of the latest devices and smart technologies by Huawei in the 5G, artificial intelligence and clouding.

Huawei’s strategic vision matches Saudi Vision 2030 in attracting more businesses, enabling the continuous transfer of knowledge, and contributing to the development of the retail sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

GACA also signed a MoU with Microsoft Arabia Ltd., on the sidelines of the activities of the Global Technology Conference that’s held at the Riyadh Front Expo during the period from the 1st to 3rd of February 2022. The MoU was signed on behalf of GACA by the Director General of Technology and Digital Transformation, Eng. Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Shaya, and Microsoft Arabia’s General Manager, Thamer Al-Harbi.

The MoU aims to enhance joint cooperation between the two sides in the areas of digital transformation, innovation and capacity building.

Lastly, GACA signed, on the sidelines of the Global Tech Conference (LEAP), a MoU with Oracle in the field of digital transformation, with the aim of cooperating to develop and support a roadmap for digital acceleration using Oracle cloud services in GACA’s digital transformation initiative.

The Memorandum was signed on behalf of GACA by the General Director of Technology and Digital Transformation, Eng. Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Shaya, and on behalf of Oracle by Mr. Fahad AlTurief, Managing Director, Oracle Saudi Arabia and Vice President, Cloud, Saudi Arabia and LEENA.

The MoU includes cooperation in a number of different technical areas and activities in relation to the roadmap for digital transformation of the cloud environment. Furthermore, mutual coordination regarding cloud technical seminars, training and guidance, facilitating training and designating a focal point to implement a successful cooperation between the two parties.

It is worth noting that GACA is keen to activate the comprehensive digital transformation project in the use of modern technologies in various fields of air transport to raise the level of services, quality and efficiency. GACA also aims to simplify procedures, while constantly maintaining the provision of services and the exchange of information in a safe and sound manner based on the best practices and international standards.
