Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) is organizing a workshop themed “Uses of Drones in Security Fields, Opportunities, Challenges and Policies” in Riyadh, from 28-30 August, in cooperation with the Korea Institute for Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST).
Experts and specialists from Arab countries, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Interpol are participating in the event, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The University’s Vice President for External Relations, Khaled Al-Harfash, said the workshop is part of the University’s response to the Arab security needs, as it is the scientific body of the Arab Interior Ministers Council and within its efforts to keep abreast of the advanced developments in the security fields, namely the current development in autonomous vehicles, including drones.
He added that the rapid technological developments in robotics and artificial intelligence have led to negative repercussions and serious security threats through their use in multiple terrorist and criminal activities, as well as contributing to the development of policies that regulate their use in all fields, including the security and commercial fields.
Al-Harfash pointed out that NAUSS has established a centre for cybercrime and digital evidence that offers four training tracks, including digital forensic evidence for mobile phones and drones to equip Arab trainees with the skills required in these areas per international best practices, stressing that the centre seeks to be the first Arab reference in empowering Arab competencies in cybercrime and digital evidence.
Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) was established in 1978 as part of an Arab decision to form the first Arab university specialized in postgraduate studies, research and training in all areas of security in its most comprehensive sense.
NAUSS is headquartered in Riyadh and receives full support, both material and non-material, from the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Fortunately, the University is managed and supervised by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Supreme Council of NAUSS, and Their Royal Highnesses Their Excellencies the Arab Interior Ministers.
Since its early activities, NAUSS has emerged to showcase a specialized academic security message to Arab security personnel and to contribute to meeting the needs of institutions and security agencies in the ministries of interior, criminal justice, and social welfare agencies in Arab countries. Within years, the University has risen to be among the ranks of prestigious Universities and has even occupied a unique position closely related to the security of Arab society in its broader sense..
