Every two years, EUROSATORY attracts military and industry experts in addition to interested private individuals alike to Paris to find out about new trends and technical developments at the world's largest defence technology trade fair.

Reason enough for the German medium-sized military vehicle manufacturer FFG to present several innovative armoured vehicles ‘live’ again this year. One of these is the Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV) G5 (photo), which offers armed forces flexible support on the battlefield, covering a wide range of deployment options through the use of different mission modules. This multi-role vehicle was designed from scratch with the aim of deploying a modular payload on a highly protected and mobile vehicle base. By utilising ISO container industry standards, the modules used can be exchanged within a few hours in order to assign the vehicle to new applications, making the ACSV G5 flexible for a wide range of tasks.

The electronic concept of the vehicle follows the NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture (NGVA) and fulfils extremely high requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and data security thanks to consistent red/black network separation. In addition, a CAN-bus system enables rapid data exchange between the individual vehicle components and allows faults to be analysed quickly, if necessary.

Conceptually, the ACSV G5 combines exceptionally effective mine protection with a robust design, while MOTS and COTS products in particular are used in production to the greatest extent possible. As a result, it does not only represent a variable and reliable vehicle solution, but moreover offers a particularly good price-performance ratio over its entire life cycle, thanks to its simple maintenance and servicing concept, too.

Also on display at the FFG stand this year is the WiSENT 2, which has been configured as a mine-clearing armoured vehicle, including a mine plough as well as a mine clearing line charge (MICLIC). Other well thought out components, e.g. a lane marking system (LMS), complete the system. Being the world's most modern multifunctional vehicle platform based on the Leopard 2, it can also be used as an armoured recovery and engineer vehicle or even as an armoured bridge-laying vehicle. To date, the vehicle system has already been sold to six Leopard 2 user countries, where it has been seamlessly integrated into the existing supply and service chains. Even in its basic configuration, the WiSENT 2 offers the crew maximum safety and can be optimally customised for any mission thanks to numerous additional equipment options.

However, it is not only at the FFG stand at EUROSATORY 2024 that modern solutions from the Northern German company can be found. Another technological showpiece awaits interested trade visitors at the stand of the Norwegian company KONGSBERG, where the ACSV G5 will be presented as an all-in-one system with detectors and effectors mounted on a highly protected and mobile vehicle as a Short Range Air Defence system, including Sidewinder missiles as main effectors.
