Exail, a global leader in naval navigation, has been chosen by Naval Group to enhance the French Navy’s Ocean Patrol Vessels (OPVs) navigation capabilities as part of the French Directorate General of Armament (DGA) Ocean Patrol Vessel program aimed at the renewal of the high seas patrol vessels based in Brest and Toulon, and the public service patrol vessels based in Cherbourg.
Under this collaboration, Exail will supply a comprehensive suite of navigation hardware, including Phins Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and Netans Data Distribution Units (DDU).
Offering highly precise navigation data resilient to signal disturbances, the Phins INS will enhance the OPVs’ operational capabilities, improving navigational accuracy and situational awareness in diverse maritime conditions.
Leveraging Exail’s Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology, Phins guarantees durability while minimizing maintenance needs, providing a reliable solution for coastal surveillance missions. Serving as the cornerstone of the navigation system, the Netans system will ensure the OPVs receive consistent, reliable, and precise navigation data, while adhering to safety and security standards and addressing potential cybersecurity risks.

“We are honored to have been selected by Naval Group. This contract reinforces our long-standing partnership,” said Pierre-Louis Roudaut, Regional Sales Manager at Exail.
“Through this collaboration, we are fulfilling our commitment to simplify the lives of sailors by offering a thoughtfully designed system that precisely addresses their needs for reliability and performance,” he added.
Having already equipped over 70% of the French Navy’s fleet, this latest contract further solidifies Exail’s position in the French market, complementing existing programs such as Flotlog, the FDI first rank frigates, and the BSAOM overseas support and assistance vessels.
Exail also announced it has signed a contract with Precision Technic Defence A/S, a specialist in defense technology, to supply Advans Vega Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) for integration into mobile surveillance systems. These systems will be deployed on multiple platforms by the land forces of a major Northern European country.
The Advans Vega INS was chosen for its high precision in targeting, offering a heading accuracy of up to 0.5 milliradians. This level of precision is crucial in military operations where even the smallest deviation can significantly impact mission outcomes. The system is engineered to maintain this accuracy in dynamic and challenging environments, ensuring reliable navigation, surveillance and targeting across various defense applications.
“Our focus has always been on delivering solutions that provide unparalleled accuracy and reliability in the field,” said Jesper Rom Knudsen, CEO at Precision Technic Defence Group. “The Advans Vega INS meets these exacting standards, offering the precision needed to guarantee the operational effectiveness of these surveillance systems in even the most exacting conditions.”
“The selection of the Advans Vega INS by Precision Technic Defence underscores the value of our technology in critical defense applications,” said Neil Perriton, Head of Land Defense & Special Forces for Northern Europe at Exail.
“This agreement not only reinforces our partnership with Precision Technic Defence but also reflects our dedication to supporting military operations with cutting-edge navigation solutions,” he stressed.
This collaboration strengthens Exail’s position in the European defense market, reaffirming its role as a leading provider of advanced inertial navigation systems. It also extends the list of armed forces that have adopted Exail’s technologies, including those of France, Poland, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
