Through its unique positioning on the naval defense market as a prime contractor, designer and integrator of armed vessels throughout their life cycle, and its experience with more than 50 navies in the world, Naval Group has an integrated vision of naval combat and offers its customers an unequalled level of overall fleet performance during the whole ship’s lifecycle, with credible and available solutions they can trust.
SURFACE SHIPS & SYSTEMS:
FDI Frigate
The FDI frigate is a concentrate of technology and innovation, designed for crisis management as well as naval supremacy in high intensity conflict. This compact frigate is capable of performing a broad and comprehensive spectrum of missions, alone or as part of a naval force, for long duration missions on the high seas as well as for littoral operations in a crowded and contested operational environment. The FDI has high-level capabilities in anti-air, anti-surface, antisubmarine and asymmetric warfare, considering the French Navy's operational heritage acquired in operations. Modular and scalable, the FDI can be adapted to meet the specific needs of each Navy. This frigate, natively ready for technology transfer and local construction, contributes to the sovereignty of client countries. The FDI has already been ordered by France and Greece, with first deliveries planned in 2025.
Gowind® Corvette
Gowind® is a multi-mission Surface Combatant designed to perform the full range of naval defence operations and maritime security roles, with the highest level of performance. Gowind® provides the capabilities of a light frigate in every warfare domain. Sturdy, strongly equipped, Gowind® integrates, through Naval Group's SETIS® Combat Management System and innovative structural solutions, the latest generation sensors and weapons. Designed to counter air, and underwater threats from the initial steps of the engineering process, Gowind® is multipurpose by design. As an international success story, Gowind® is already in service and meets the strategic stakes of major navies, as 11 units have already been chosen by various navies which need a multimission combat ship to carry out maritime protection operations and ensure their sovereignty. Most of them are built locally, thanks to technology transfer and partnerships with local industries.
Multi-Purpose Modular Launcher System (MPLS)
Far from the traditional logic of “one launcher per type of weapon”, the MPLS is Naval Group's response to the current context of asymmetric and protean threats. Real technological breakthrough, Naval Group’s MPLS is capable of deploying multiple delivery systems, while offering unprecedented payload capacity and simplified on-board integration. The MPLS offers considerably enhanced nearfield self-defence capability (up to 8 kilometres), the possibility of integrating additional onboard capabilities (rockets, missiles, grenades, underwater weapons, decoys, UAVs), and greater ammunition payload capacity (around 1,000 kilos), all thanks to its interchangeable ammunition module technology.
Mine Countermeasure Vessel
The solution acquired by the Belgian and Dutch navies represents a complete paradigm shift in the way mines are fought, with a ship and ship-handling and mine-countermeasures personnel remaining at a distance from the danger (stand-off). Only drones enter the suspected minefield. The aim of this robotic mine countermeasures concept is to keep sailors away from the threat zone and minimise human intervention. This solution also enables the minefield to be cleared faster than with conventional means. So, while there will always be a phased approach from searching to neutralising mines, most tasks can be carried out in parallel by different drones, rather than one after the other as is the case today.
SUBMARINES & SYSTEMS:
Barracuda Family Submarines
The Suffren nuclear attack submarines (SSN) built under the Barracuda program are among the most powerful in the world and are designed to ensure France’s naval power. The French Navy’s new nuclear attack submarine is polyvalent, mobile, hardy and can be deployed quickly. Its missions cover all fields of combat, support to deterrence, deep strikes, wide area surveillance, deployment with a naval air force, cooperation within coalitions or Special Forces.
The Blacksword® Barracuda is extremely stealthy, equipped with a wide range of sensors, weapons and means of action. It is to be one of the most powerful conventional submarines in the world. Designed to be robust and resistant, it offers the means to operate far, long and in ever more demanding environments. Submarines in this class benefit from the latest developments carried out for the French SSN Barracuda programme. The conventional Barracuda has been chosen by the Netherlands.
While the ship is the focus of Naval Group's attention, its internationalization strategy has boosted another of its activities: infrastructure. It has even become an essential component of our export offerings. The Group's ability to develop infrastructures adapted to ships throughout their entire life cycle, from design to maintenance in operational condition, is very specific, stemming of course from its perfect knowledge of ships and their construction processes.
Scorpène® Submarine
Scorpène® conventional attack submarine, a multi-mission sea proven submarine designed by Naval Group to cover the full spectrum of submarine warfare, such as anti-surface warfare, antisubmarine warfare, special operations or intelligence gathering. Extremely stealthy with a powerful combat capability (torpedoes and missiles) and high operational readiness, contributing to a credible deterrence.
With 14 submarines built worldwide, the Scorpène® is a key reference of conventional attack submarines (SSK) for navies around the world. It can be easily adapted to specific requirements of customers and the continuous improvement of the Scorpene® ensures the seamless integration of the latest technology onboard.
F21 Torpedo
The F21 is the heavyweight torpedo capable of covering the widest range of complex missions, with a very high degree of decision-making autonomy. It is equipped with energy technology offering the best compromise between endurance, speed and safety. Its very high computing power gives it exceptional capabilities for real-time processing of its sensors, target discrimination and situation assessment, even in the most complex environments.
The F21 torpedo's advanced mission system, designed with Man-Machine Teaming in mind, provides the operator with a clear and evolving vision, enabling him to intervene at the best moment for optimum decision-making. The F21 torpedo, which has fired more than 100 shots at sea, is in service on all the French Navy's submarines, as well as on the Brazilian Navy’s Scorpene submarines. The aim is now to build an incremental approach to maintain the weapon at the highest level throughout its service life.
Drones & Autonomous Systems
Naval Group designs, develops and integrates naval surface, submarine and airborne drone systems. The Group also designs and develops drone capabilities, including drone projection ships for mine warfare and anti-submarine warfare, as well as key technological capabilities. Naval Group invests in future concepts through simulation, AI and digital twins, which will make drones, whether organic to the ship or used autonomously, essential elements fully integrated into Naval Forces.
SeaQuest® S is the first of a range of surface drones designed by Naval Group through its subsidiary Sirehna, and produced in partnership with the Couach-CNC shipyard. The USV has been designed on a modular basis to meet the operational needs of users, whether from governments (including those requiring the carriage of weapons) or civilian entities. This first production ship was launched in July 2024.
Services
Today, threats and technologies are evolving quickly. To maintain their operational superiority and efficiency, warships must be regularly upgraded. It's a challenge to make it possible in short time and limited resources.
Naval Group proposes customized and scalable solutions that can be integrated into the existing environment, to modernize surface combatant, submarines and logistic vessels, in order to face the new challenges, whether design or not by Naval Group. Thanks to rare and trained skills, Naval Group has the ability to develop and deliver customized solutions of extension and upgrade of all kind of naval platforms and systems over their entire life cycle. It relies also on a wide range of solutions and specific added value to enhance the operational potential of the fleet.
