Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Sunday with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Charles Q. Brown (photo). The meeting focused on the ongoing developments in the Middle East.
President El-Sisi emphasised that the current regional situation demands decisive action from the international community and all relevant parties to exert every effort and intensify pressure to defuse tensions and halt the escalation threatening the security and stability of the entire region, according to a spokesman for the Presidency.
The Egyptian President specifically warned of the dangers of opening a new front in Lebanon and affirmed the need to preserve Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.
President El-Sisi also underscored the importance of responding to the joint Egyptian-American-Qatari efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and facilitating the exchange of prisoners and detainees, which would help to advance the path toward de-escalation and stability in the region.
The President highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza, which necessitate an immediate halt to the conflict to deliver the massive amounts of relief and medical aid required.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed the need for international efforts to launch a comprehensive political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the framework of a two-state solution, as the basis for sustainable regional stability.
Additionally, the meeting touched on the strong strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, spotlighting the ongoing cooperation and coordination between the two nations across various sectors, particularly security and military matters, ahramonline reported.
For his part, Brown conveyed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s crucial role in supporting regional stability, security, and peace.
He also expressed his desire to expand military cooperation to achieve shared interests and bolster stability and peace in the Middle East.
Minister of Defence and Military Production and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces General Abdel-Meguid Saqr and US Ambassador to Cairo Herro Mustafa Garg also attended the meeting.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, received on Saturday, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown.
Huneiti and his US counterpart reviewed topics of mutual collaboration and coordination in a variety of disciplines, as well as recent regional and international developments.
They also addressed issues that benefit the two nations' armed forces, emphasizing the necessity of coordinating global efforts to promote peace and security, Petra news agency reported.
The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for his part, highlighted Jordan's crucial role and its ongoing efforts to solidify security and stability in the area.
