FLIR announced it has secured a multimillion dollar sub-contract with Northrop Grumman.

As part of this contract, FLIR has developed a new medium-range ground-based radar designed specifically for desert environments, the LSR-5000.

The final systems will be deployed in the Middle East region for wide area perimeter security at critical facilities.

The LSR-5000 wide area surveillance radar is based on the same highly reliable technology inherent in all FLIR radars and adapted to meet the rigorous requirements of a desert environment. The system effectively monitors up to 78 square kilometers while maintaining extremely low false alarm rates. Work on this contract is taking place at the FLIR facilities in Laval, Quebec, Canada.

"Through the acquisition of ICx Technologies, FLIR is now a leader in the development of advanced wide area surveillance solutions," William A. Sundermeier, president of FLIR Government Systems Division. "By adding the detecting and tracking capabilities of ground-based radar to our product suite, we are able to provide customers with additional solutions to meet their security needs."
