The contract includes supply and commissioning of 2 simulators as well as on-site through-life support for three years.
The simulators will be set up and operated at two different sites:
- 1st African armored cavalry regiment (RCA) at Canjuers (Southeast France)
- Armored Cavalry Branch Training School (EAABC) in Saumur (Western France)
Both STP NG systems will be used to train upgraded AMX 10 RC crews. Each system comprises:
- 3 trainee modules offering a faithful 360° representation of the upgraded AMX 10 RC turret for trainee commanders and gunners, with a simplified driver training position for each module
- 3 instructor stations (1 for each trainee module)
- 3 light armored vehicle stations to simulate the armored reconnaissance group
- 3 stations respectively assigned for engineers, artillery and infantry
- 1 station for Head Quarter animation
- 1 stand-alone exercise development station
- 1 after-action review station
- 1 administrator station for system administration and status monitoring
- 1 technical infrastructure to interconnect all the above stations and modules
- 2 terrain database creation stations.
The purpose of the STP NG contract is to replace the existing simulation system, the STP 105, which was also supplied by Thales, to take into account the new features and characteristics of the upgraded vehicle, incorporate new information and command systems (the SIR regimental information system and the SIT terminal information system) and provide a richer instruction and training experience.
One key advantage of the STP NG solution is that the same system is used for both technical instruction (gun firing) and tactical instruction (focusing on fire control functions). With the latest version of the SETHI computer-generated force software developed by Thales and the ThalesView image generator, the new system provides a much richer and more functional synthetic environment.
The system will be used to provide both individual and collective instruction and training in observation and firing tasks, platoon- and squadron-level fire coordination and operational procedures.
