KMW presented its new artillery system for the first time. The integration of the AGM (artillery gun module) onto the BOXER (photo) combines the capabilities of the two systems: fully automated loading, firing, and remote-controlled operation of the AGM with rapid operational deployability over large distances, while providing a high level of protection for the crew of the BOXER. This combination means a significant reduction of the personnel requirement, while retaining high firepower and endurance. At the same time, because of its modular structure, the system is easier to deploy strategically and operationally.
Furthermore, the latest upgrade version of the world-famous LEOPARD 2 family of battle tanks, the German LEOPARD 2 A7, was presented for the first time at EUROSATORY. Improved day and night vision capabilities, programmable munitions, an up-to-date command system, and a cooling system for the crew compartment with a 17 kW electrical generator make up only part of the modular innovation and further development of the German A7 version.
KMW also presented the DINGO 2 HD in the Route Clearance equipment variant. With its mine roller, it is able to detonate mines safely and effectively. The increased working load of up to three tonnes, with almost the same vehicle dimensions as the DINGO 2, a powerful 225 kW engine, and a fully automatic transmission, in combination with the new Unimog chassis, make possible numerous further variants and equipment options.
With the remotely operable light weapon station 200PLUS (FLW 200PLUS) fitted with 20mm calibre, and installed for the first time on a DINGO 2 HD, KMW demonstrated its expertise in the integration of automatic cannons having increased firepower. The tried and tested operating and display concept of the FLW 100 and 200 variants has been included, as have electronic and mechanical interfaces to the vehicle itself.
Also with the MUNGO air-transportable vehicle, the system concept has been consistently further implemented. Tactical mobility and soldier protection are the guiding principles of the vehicle. The system concept behind the MUNGO allows for a very wide range of variants in this class. Whether as an N/C reconnaissance, decontamination, or medical vehicle: This tactical mobility provides a clear benefit to the air transport capability for light forces. On the KMW trade fair stand, the protected MUNGO group vehicle (CH53 and CH47) enabled for internal loads is just one representative of the versatility of its vehicle class.
Lastly, KMW presented the LEGUAN bridge laying system with its LEOPARD 2 chassis; so far, the system has been introduced in 14 countries. Increased mobility and extended capabilities significantly increase the bridge layer's deployment options. In addition to the well-known 26 metre bridge, this system provides the option of laying two LEGUAN bridges, each 14 metrers long. The LEGUAN LEOPARD 2 heavily protects its crew of only two men, which is able to lay and raise bridges of class MLC80, whether at day or night.
