Elektrobit (EB) Wins Tactical Wireless IP Network Order
30.07.2014 Europe
Elektrobit (EB) has received a purchase order from the Finnish Defence Forces for EB Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) system products. The Finnish Defence Forces have also issued a purchase option, which enables further purchases of the same products.
The purchase order and the purchase option are continuation of the delivery contract signed between EB and the Finnish Defence Forces in September 2011 and related product deliveries that began in December 2012. In accordance with the contract EB is developing the Tactical Wireless IP Network for the Finnish Defence Forces and delivers software defined radios that are the basis for the EB TAC WIN system.
“The purchased products represent the latest technology in tactical communication by enabling the use of Internet-like data networks when commanding mobile troops of the Army. The Tactical Wireless IP Network system is combat proof, independent from external data networks and highly automated. Software-based functionality enables cost-efficient development and adaptability during the whole lifespan of the system. It is a high-quality data transfer solution for both national and international operations.” said Colonel Harri Virtanen, Assistant Chief of Staff G6, Finnish Army.
“We are happy that the successful collaboration between EB and the Finnish Defence Forces is continuing in renewing the tactical data transfer systems for the Finnish Defence Forces. The good quality and high performance of the products are a result of our many years of experience and knowhow in the field of communication and radio technology and good cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces. The Tactical Wireless IP Network is a new generation broadband wireless backbone network that can in addition to the Finnish Defence Forces’ application and because of the qualities for the system, be deployed also for example in public safety applications in disaster response situations,” said Harri Romppainen, Vice President of Defense at EB.
The EB Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) is a wireless broadband network system intended for military and public safety use. With the system MANET (mobile ad hoc network), link, and connection networks can be formed into one logical IP network quickly, no matter what the location is. It is compatible with existing fixed and wireless network infrastructures.
The core of the system is a software defined radio based tactical router, which is versatile, easily adaptable to different needs and can be easily updated with software for future needs. With the tactical router users can freely form both wired and wireless broadband data transfer connections.
The system comprises also three radio heads, and each radio head covers its own frequency band area and can be used for flexible formation of different network topologies for different communication needs. All the products of the system are designed for harsh conditions, and thanks to the system’s automated functions the implementation of the system can be done quickly.
