FLIR Systems Reports Strong Demand for Weapon Sights
19.01.2012 North America
FLIR Systems reported strong demand from U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for its catalogue of weapon sights.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Crane, Indiana recently selected FLIR Systems for the USSOCOM Special Operations Peculiar MODification (SOPMOD) programs.
Weapon sight products - MilSight™ TaNS, TaNs-SF and ThermoSight™ ACTS-SR products - were selected for 2 of 3 available Clip on Night Vision (CNVD) awards.
Additionally, USSOCOM’s Special Operations Aviation Regiment has chosen FLIR’s AN/ZSQ-3 systems, with add-ons to the system including a FLIR-designed laser rangefinder and designator. The order, issued in late September, will see deliveries continue through September 2016.
“Weapon sights are very personal for all Soldiers, and FLIR is proud of the trust USSOCOM has in our technology,” said Bill Sundermeier, President, FLIR Government Systems division.
“Knowing our sights are going to be used on the weapons of U.S. Special Operation Forces is a great testament to the quality, reliability and range of our product line,” he added.
The lightweight and long-range image intensified and infrared sights delivered under these contracts will provide night operations with unmatched range performance.
For both awards, the work will be performed primarily in FLIR’s North Billerica, Massachusetts and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania offices.
