Boeing made an on-site delivery of the first P-8I aircraft to the Indian Navy in Seattle on December 19, in accordance with the contract.

India will receive this aircraft and two more of its eight contracted P-8Is in 2013.

The program is progressing on schedule as Boeing assembles the fourth and fifth P-8Is, which are designed for long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare.

The Boeing P-8 Poseidon (formerly the Multimission Maritime Aircraft or MMA) is a military aircraft currently being developed for the United States Navy (USN).

The P-8 is intended to conduct anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and shipping interdiction and to engage in an electronic intelligence (ELINT) role. This will involve carrying torpedoes, depth charges, SLAM-ER anti-ship missiles, and other weapons. It will also be able to drop and monitor sonobuoys.

The P-8 is designed to operate in conjunction with the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle.

The P-8 has also been ordered by the Indian Navy.
