All seeing and all knowing is the perfect situation for any Commander. Especially given that the decisions can have tremendous and long term impact. For a Commander, accurate, reliable and immediate information is what is needed to make the best decisions to protect his people and his nation.

Information is more than data. Information is what results from raw data being translated into truly relevant information from which a commander can make smart, forward-thinking decisions. Nations around the world are seeking systems that can provide that kind of advanced, intelligent information that is tailored for their environment and requirements.

Raytheon has built on the company’s long history in command and control systems to develop a complete suite of solutions to a nation’s specific needs. Called Command View Mission Solutions, system elements take in data from a variety of sources to present complete situational awareness to commanding officers. The system can provide both real-time and non-real time elements, to includebattle planning, air and missile defense, and wargaming as needed to prepare for eventual threats and scenarios.

“Years of development and operational usage have led to the Command View Mission Solution set we have today,” said Bob Delorge, Vice President, Raytheon’s C4I Systems.

“Countries in all parts of the globe, including the U.S., NATO and the GCC have put their confidence in Raytheon to ensurethey have the best systems possible powered by an engaged and invested command and control partner,” he added.

Integration is often the key to a successful command and control system. A system that not only integrates with a variety of sensors, but a system that integrates and communicates with other operational systems with the region. An examination ofany recent operation notes that collaboration is necessary for success.

“Stand alone, silo-type systems can provide data, but not information. Today’s environment and threats move quickly – accurate situational awareness that supports collaborative decision making is critical in a real battle environment,” said Delorge.

A quick survey indicates that there are numerous offerings by many companies that claim a variety of capabilities in command and control. But as with most things, proven technology in an operational environment may be the only true measure of future success. Should a nation’s sovereignty and self-defense capability be trusted to anything else?
