Defense and security company Saab has signed a contract for deliveries of the new Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapon system. Deliveries will take place during 2017.
This is Saab’s fourth customer for the system since its launch in late 2014.
The new version has all the effectiveness and versatility of the proven Carl-Gustaf system but with enhancements. These include a lightweight design (weighing less than 7 kg), a round counter and intelligent features, such as compatibility with future innovations like the intelligent sighting systems and programmable ammunition, which collectively offer significant operational improvements for the soldier.
“With the M4 version the customer will have a weapon with the latest technology and with improved ergonomics which will give them an increased tactical flexibility to deal with any situation on the battlefield”, says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab business area Dynamics.
With this order, Saab has secured a new Carl-Gustaf customer and also its fourth customer of the new M4 system since the market debut in late 2014. In 2015, Saab received the first order of the new Carl-Gustaf M4 from the armed forces of the Slovak Republic. In addition, the system was acquired by two other countries for evaluation and qualification purposes.
The industry’s nature is such that depending on circumstances concerning the product and customer, further information regarding the customer will not be announced.
