MiG-35 Fighter Jets to be Equipped with New Navigation System

Russian multirole MiG-35 fighter jets will receive the latest platform-less inertial navigation system, the CEO of the Moscow Institute of Electro Mechanics and Automation, Alexei Kuznetsov, said.

“The MiG-35 will receive the navigation system. We have signed a contract, we have toput some samples fortesting atthe end ofthis- early next year,” Kuznetsov said.

The system is designed todetermine the location ofthe object, complex processing and delivering navigation and flight information. The system is able todetermine the coordinates and parameters ofan object inthe autonomous mode and inthe absence ofterrestrial, marine or space signals.

The MiG-35 is a multipurpose 4 ++ generation fighter, it is a further development ofthe MiG-29K / KUB and MiG-29M / M2 combat aircraft withimproved combat effectiveness and versatility, aswell asimproved performance.

In August, CEO of ‘MiG’ Sergey Korotkov said that the signing ofthe contract tosupply the Russian Defense Ministry withMiG-35s is expected tobe completed inthe first quarter of2016.

The aircraft will enter the Russian Air Force in2018-2020.

MiG Corporation first officially presented the MiG-35 internationally during theAero India2007 air show.

The MiG-35 was officially unveiled when theRussian Minister of Defense, Sergey Ivanov, visited Lukhovitsky Machine Building Plant “MAPO-MIG”.

The single seat version is designated MiG-35 and the two-seat version is MiG-35D. The fighter has vastly improved avionics and weapon systems, notably the newAESA radarand the uniquely designedOptical Locator System (OLS), relieves the aircraft from relying onground-controlled interception(GCI) systems and enables it to conduct independent multi-role missions.
