PlastPack Defence to Launch New Small Caliber Box

PlastPack Defense (PPD) announced a new light weight plastic, drop-in replacement ammunition box solutions for small caliber arms replacing existing metal ammunition boxes.
NammoRaufoss AS, Norway has awarded PPD a 273 Million DKK ($47.5 million) contract for the design, development, qualification, and marketing of light weight, high density plastic, small caliber ammunition boxes.
The agreement (MOU) with Nammo Roufoss AS spans over a 10-year time period to manufacture drop-in replacement ammunition boxes for 5.56mm & 12.7mm ammunition.
This new design concept for ammunition boxes will significantly reduce the weight by50%, improve storage and packaging stability, enhanced thermal features and provide increased shock resistance.
Design and development has been completed. PPD has manufactured prototypes and is now entering the final test and qualification phase according to military standards.
PPD is expected to employ 75-100 highly skilled blue and white collar workers in Denmark within production, engineering and design.
PPD is introducing its new light weight packaging solution for the military industry at the ongoing DESi exhibition (10-13 September 2013, London, UK) where a prototype will be on display.
