General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army (PNA) received in audience on Sunday 26th February 2023, at the headquarters of PNA, James Stephen Heappey, Minister of State, in charge of the British Armed Forces, who was visiting Algeria at the head of a large delegation.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Commanders of Forces, the Chiefs of Departments and Central Directors of General Staff of PNA and Ministry of National Defence, as well as members of the British delegation.
During this audience, the two sides discussed the state of military cooperation between the armies of the two countries and the means of strengthen it. Additionally, they discussed the security challenges facing the world in general, and the African continent in particular, and exchanged views on various issues of common interest, the Algerian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
On this occasion, General Chanegriha delivered a speech, in which he first welcomed the British Official, and the accompanying delegation, emphasizing that this visit to Algeria follows on from previous visits, which allowed both parties to discuss topical issues and common interest.
“Your visit to Algeria comes a few days after that made by Air Marshal Martin Eliott Sampson, Senior Defence Adviser for the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region, which allowed both parties to discuss topical issues and interest common.”
“Such activities and meetings represent opportunities to promote strategic dialogue between Algeria and Great Britain at the level of the aspirations of our respective institutions,” he added.
General Chanegriha also underlined the full readiness and the firm willingness of the High Command of PNA to make the necessary efforts to establish a beneficial cooperation dynamic for the Armies of both countries.
“In this regard, I would like to assure you of the full readiness and firm willingness of the high command of PNA to make the necessary efforts to establish a dynamic of cooperation that is beneficial for our respective institutions, based on frank exchanges and an objective and pragmatic vision,” General Chanegriha stressed.
He further highlighted the level of the relationship maintained by the two countries, particularly in terms of exchanging experiences in the field of the fight against terrorism and training.
“In terms of bilateral military cooperation, we are pleased with the quality of relations, as well as the willingness shown by the high authorities of the two countries to further promote them, particularly in areas of common interest, such as the exchange of experiences in the fight against terrorism and training,” he said.
“Moreover, with the aim of diversifying the activities of our bilateral cooperation, we can initiate the necessary consultations, with a view to identifying the opportunities offered in the various fields and the means of their realization,” General Chanegriha concluded.
The meeting was also an opportunity for both sides to exchange analyzes on issues of common interest. In this regard, the British official emphasized his country’s readiness to further promote bilateral military cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
At the end of this meeting, the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts. Then the visiting Minister of State, in charge of the British Armed Forces, proceeded to the signing of The Guest Book of the General Staff of PNA. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of National Defence)
