Senior UK Defence Adviser to the Middle East Visits Bahrain

Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, met on Tuesday Lieutenant-General Thomas Beckett, the United Kingdom’s Defence Senior Adviser for the Middle East, and his accompanying delegation at Gudaiybia Palace in Manama.

Prince Salman highlighted that terrorists and extremists pose grave security challenges to the region, threatening international peace and stability with their misleading theocratic preaching, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

He emphasised that the Kingdom of Bahrain is vigilant in the face of these misguided and extremist ideologies and stressed the importance of peaceful dialogue when addressing issues faced by the region and wider world.

He further underlined the leading role played by the United Kingdom in maintaining international peace and stability, including combating terrorism and its root causes through participation in the international coalition.

Prince Salman lauded the longstanding bilateral relationship between Bahrain and the United Kingdom and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to developing relations across all fields, with a particular emphasis on military relations.

Speaking about regional issues, he discussed ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

The United Kingdom’s Defence Senior Adviser for the Middle East expressed his appreciation to Prince Salman for the opportunity to meet him and praised Bahrain’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and the wider world.

Lieutenant-General Yousif bin Ahmed Al Jalahma, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Bahrain Defence Forces (BDF) Commander in Chief Field Marshal Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa also received British Defence Senior Advisor for the Middle East Lieutenant General Tom Beckett (photo), Chief of Joint Operations John Lorimer and their accompanying delegation.

He lauded the deep-rooted historic relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom as well as growing bilateral cooperation mainly in the military field.

The meeting was attended by BDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Dhiab bin Saqr Al-Nuaimi, Military Security Director Major General Hassan Mohammed Sa'ad, Inspector General Major General Abdullah Hassan Al-Nuaimi, Assistant Chief of Staff for Supply and Logistics Rear Admiral Yousef Ahmed Malallah and Military Cooperation Director Brigadier Sheikh Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

Lastly, Lt. Gen Tom Beckett was received by Public Security Chief, Major General Tariq Al-Hassan. The two sides discussed security topics of mutual interest.
