Tehran welcomes the fact that Moscow has adopted a positive attitude and is making efforts to help resolve the dispute over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program through diplomatic means, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said last week.

“We welcome the fact that Russia has taken a positive view. However, the point about our peaceful nuclear activities is that we have already taken great steps to build confidence and believe that confidence-building is a two-way process”, Mehmanparast said.

Mehmanparast also commented on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s invitation to Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi to pay a visit to Moscow. “The invitation was made in line with consultations between officials of the two countries,” he said.

Salehi and Lavrov will discuss Russia’s step-by-step approach as well as the latest regional and international developments, Mehmanparast added.

About the fact that a number of U.S., French, and British officials claim that Iran’s installation of a new generation of centrifuges at its nuclear facilities violates United Nations’ sanctions on the country, Mehmanparast said the installation of centrifuges with better quality and speed is also in line with the country’s peaceful nuclear activities… And it would be better if the countries whose officials have taken an irrational stance toward Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities choose a path of cooperation with the Islamic Republic, he added.
