Thales to Extend Jordan’s TETRA Communication Network
17.05.2012 Jordan
The Jordanian government has renewed its confidence in Thales by awarding the Group with the extension of the nationwide TETRA communication network for Jordan.
In 2006, Thales was selected to supply its Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) solution, DigiMax, for the installation of a nationwide Tetra network.
The Jordanian national network aims to provide Jordan Armed Forces, Public Safety, Police Security Agencies and the Civil Defense with a reliable, secure and easy-to-use communication system. With more than 160 base stations and 30,000 users, the fully distributed TETRA network will be in operation by the end of 2012.
The multi-agency PMR network will integrate the Air Ground Air (AGA) communication feature, making Jordan one of the first nations in the region with such advanced capabilities.
Communication between aircraft and ground users will increase the services provided to citizens.
This extension confirms Thales’s position as a leading provider of resilient and secure communications networks and illustrates the know-how of the company in this field and its capacity to design, deploy and install a large secure communication network to a very tight timescale.
Furthermore, at the ongoing TETRA World Congress (14-7 May 2012; Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center), Thales announced a memorandum of understanding with Nokia Siemens Networks with the intention to provide a broadband Long Term Evolution solution offering high speed data communication to Professional Mobile Radio users.
This intended cooperation covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
