His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan received Monday Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza (photo).
According to a Royal Court statement, discussions at the meeting covered means to expand military and defence cooperation, as well as the latest developments in the region and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach, Petra news agency reported.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Jordan Muhammad Ajmal Iqbal attended the meeting.
For his part, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, also received Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the accompanying delegation.
Major General Huneiti reviewed with the guest the current events in regional and international arenas to serve the interests of the armed forces of the two countries.
“Jordanian-Pakistani relations serve as a model for dealing with numerous challenges and threats, and we look forward to expanding defense cooperation between the two nations,” Huneiti said.
“Jordan bears the primary responsibility and role in ensuring regional peace and stability,” he further emphasized.
Jordan, according to the Army Chief, has complicated problems and security threats, such as combating terrorism, organized smuggling, and cross-border infiltration, as well as regional and international issues and changes and the increasing use of drones.
Lieutenant General Mirza, for his part, expressed gratitude and pride for the King’s role in maintaining international security and peace in the region, emphasizing the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries at various common levels.
Major General Huneiti and the visiting delegation attended a series of military briefings on future plans to enhance joint military cooperation in terms of agreements, exercises, and courses, as well as to develop combat capabilities and harmonize military conceptions between the two armies.
In another development, His Majesty King Abdullah also met on Monday with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q. Brown, Jr.
The meeting covered means to bolster defence and military cooperation between the two countries, as well as regional developments.
His Majesty stressed the important role of the United States in pushing for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The meeting also covered regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti, and US Ambassador to Jordan Yael Lempert attended the meeting.
