Major General HE Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah, Chief-of-Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces said that the his country’s forces had been “running the training and communication operations” for Libyan rebels.
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference of the Friends of Libya in Doha Wednesday, al-Attiyah said that Qatar had liaised between the rebels and NATO.
“Qatari Land and Air forces helped the rebels in Libya whereas Qatari warplanes supported NATO Forces in checking Gaddafi troops and in protecting civilians.”
Qatar, he said, had supervised the rebels’ plans “because they are civilians and did not have enough military experience”. He said: “We acted as the link between the rebels and NATO Forces.”
