Iran and Qatar plan to hold their first coast guard drill in the near future, a senior Iranian Commander announced.

“During a meeting with Qatar’s coastguard officials, we agreed to hold a joint drill in the coming weeks,” Commander of Iran’s Coastguards Brigadier General Seyed Ali Mohammad Salami said on the sidelines of the 11th Iran-Qatar Coastguards Cooperation Meeting in Kish Island last Thursday.

Salami underlined that the Iranian Navy has agreed to train Qatari coastguard officers on how to fight drug trafficking.

Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields.

The two countries recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.
