South Central Distribution Region Meeting

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) joined the UAE Armed Forces to host the South Center Data Distribution Region Meeting.
The 3-day seminar was held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Club and Hotel in Abu Dhabi from 6-8 March.
The UAE participated in the meeting with a high profile delegation including the TRA, Armed Forces in addition to the 5 countries located in the South Region, UAE, KSA, Nigeria, Spain and Algeria, and COSPAS-SARSAT representatives.
Among topics included on the seminar agenda were Search and Rescue (SAR) services and establishment of a discussion forum to explore ongoing and future cooperation within the South Central DDR. The benefits of the COSPAS-SARSAT organization in the South Center Region were also reviewed at the seminar. The meeting also discussed technical issues related to the Search and Rescue services during emergencies and distress calls and the importance of beacon registration in the database of the GCC countries.
The team of the Spectrum Management and International Affairs, which represented the TRA in this event stated that the meeting is an important step to unify the efforts of the South Central DDR. We are happy to cooperate with the Armed Forces. A joint committee between TRA and Armed Forces was established to guarantee coordination of the work and to facilitate effective hosting for the event.”
They also added that the meeting reviewed some of the important issues in coordinating SAR services which seek to improve the response during emergencies and distress calls. It was a great opportunity to discuss the recent issues and most efficient ways to enhance the collaboration between the five countries (UAE, KSA, Nigeria, Spain and Algeria).
