Sagem (Safran) is participating in the IDEX 2013 International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from February 17 to 21, 2013.
The company is showcasing innovative solutions tailored to the most demanding needs of defense and security forces, and spanning the full mission spectrum: intelligence, high-intensity engagement, precision strikes, border protection, civil security, search & rescue.
Sagem's defense and security offering is based on the company's areas of expertise, including navigation systems, optronics systems for combat platforms, soldier modernization solutions, drones and the AASM Hammer precision air-to-ground weapon.
Several new offerings are presented for the first time at IDEX 2013, including:
Epsilon20: A new family of land navigators, Epsilon20 is designed to cover all off-road navigation requirements, including topographic survey and satcom vehicles. This family features Sagem's advanced hemispherical resonator gyro (HRG) technology, for navigation systems that combine high performance, compact design and outstanding reliability.
JIM LR multifunction binoculars and new variants: The JIM LR long-range multifunction infrared binoculars (photo) combine several functions in a single high-performance package: day/night sensors, rangefinder, compass, GPS and data transmission. Sagem has developed several more specialized variants, all using the same basic mechanical design: cooled or uncooled (JIM UC) infrared imager, day-night image fusion (JIM LR HPD – High Performance Designator), along with new image processing capabilities, integrated photo and video recording, new control terminals.
A total of 5,000 JIM LR units are now in service or on order, including 2,000 for the French armed forces.
Sagem systems and equipment have been chosen for major defense programs in France and international markets, including the Rafale multirole fighter, Caracal, NH90 and Tiger helicopters, soldier modernization programs, combat vehicles (Leclerc main battle tanks, VBCI, BMP2 and BMP3 armored infantry fighting vehicles, Caesar, Archer, LRM Mars artillery systems), drones, the Barracuda and Scorpène class attack submarines, Aquitaine class FREMM frigates, Adroit ocean patrol boats and Baynunah corvettes.
The Baynunah class stealth corvette and Adroit patrol boat are built by French naval shipyard DCNS. Sagem supplies its Sigma navigation system and EOMS-NG (Electro-Optical Multifunction System – New Generation) detection, tracking and fire control system for these ships.
Abu Dhabi Ship Building is constructing 6 Baynunah class multi-mission corvettes for the UAE Navy.
