During the presentation David Brantner, President, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines, spoke about the latest developments and breakthroughs achieved by the PurePower engine, along with the importance of the Middle East and North Africa region for Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company.
The new-generation PurePower engine has several economic benefits - it reduces aircraft noise footprints by up to 75%, and incorporates proven technology that delivers double-digit fuel burn reduction, superb maintenance costs and a lower operating cost, resulting in great market acceptance. Operators could save up to $2 million in operating cost.
The PurePower engine also cuts carbon emissions by up to 3,600 metric tonnes, which is equal to planting about 700,000 trees per aircraft, per year. Pratt & Whitney’s combustor slashes NOx exhaust gases 35% below the future CAEP/8 regulation, while noise test results have validated its impressive noise benefits, which are very significant for both the environment and residents near airports.
Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower engine has been selected to power five single-aisle high technology aircraft currently in development:
- Airbus A320neo – PW1100G-JM engine
- Bombardier CSeries – PW1500G engine
- Embraer E-Jets – PW1700G & PW1900G engines
- Irkut MC-21 – PW1400G engine
- Mitsubishi MRJ – PW1200G engine
The PurePower engine powered the Bombardier CSeries' first flight this year.
Pratt & Whitney has over 4,800 PurePower engine orders globally; including announced and unannounced firm commitments, plus options for further orders. The Company has over 45 customers for the PurePower PW1000G engine family, and is the leader for the Airbus A320neo program.
The Middle East region is experiencing significant industry growth, and Pratt & Whitney is already partnering customers from the region who have selected the company’s technology. Pratt & Whitney PurePower engine orders from this region already include:
- Qatar Airways: 160 engine commitments
- ALAFCO: 100 engine commitments
- GulfAir: 32 engine commitment
