Whilst India and China continue to take the limelight with respect to the defense and homeland security market opportunities, the Middle East is also an area of significant opportunities.
Given the turmoil, the Middle East has experienced over the past few years, especially with respect to the current civil war in Syria, the increasing activities of Islamic fundamentalist groups in countries like Yemen and the on-going insurgency related conflicts in Iraq, many of the major regional powers have raised their levels of internal security and critical infrastructure protection onto a war footing.
According to recent research by Homeland Security Research, the Saudi Arabian Homeland Security and Law Enforcement Market for the period 2012-2015 is estimated to be $37.5 billion.
This estimate is the cumulative requirement for the law enforcement agencies as well as the demands for the private sector.
Some of the major areas where business opportunities are emerging include the Saudi-Iraq and Saudi-Yemen Border Fencing Projects where state of the art border and perimeter protection technologies are being implemented.
Significant opportunities exist in the areas of surveillance equipment, electronic detection systems, thermal imaging systems, interoperability communication equipment, perimeter protection equipment, hazmat decontamination equipment, special force equipment and maritime security equipment.
