Jordanian Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya met in Amman last week with Qatar’s Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Thani to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and consolidating shared interests.

During the meeting at the Ministry’s Headquarters, the two Ministers signed an executive action plan to implement the 2021 Jordan–Qatar security cooperation agreement.

The action plan aims to enhance “sustainable” cooperation in various security fields, including combating corruption, organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and drug trafficking, as well as strengthening border and facility security.

Additionally, it covers civil defense cooperation, mainly specialist exchanges, sharing curricula and training practices, and developing joint strategies in traffic safety, licensing systems, and information-sharing mechanisms.

The plan further outlines cooperation in police academies and training, communication systems, and the formation of a joint security committee between the two Ministries, Petra and Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Talking at the signing ceremony, Faraya stressed the “deep-rooted” Jordan–Qatar relations, as a “genuine model of brotherly” ties, strengthened by the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Faraya also briefed his Qatari counterpart on regional security challenges and the importance of joint work in maintaining stability.

In turn, Sheikh Abdulaziz praised the "solid and growing" bilateral relations, rooted in the directives of the two countries' leaderships, which have opened “broad” avenues for cooperation across multiple fields.

In another development, the Royal Engineering Corps (REC) concluded last week a specialized course on countering improvised explosive devices (C-IED), held at the Unexploded Ordnance and Explosives Disposal Unit, with participation from various branches of the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF).

The REC Director and the Acting German Ambassador in Amman attended the closing ceremony.

Talking at the ceremony, REC director said training responds to escalating regional threats and reflects the JAF’s vision of maintaining security and stability by “continuously enhancing readiness and professionalism” of its personnel.

“Advanced training programs strengthen field capabilities and improve preparedness to handle unconventional threats,” he pointed out.

The four-week course, he noted, covered "advanced" training modules including C-IED principles, unexploded ordnance (UXO) handling, counter-drone operations, field maneuvering in hostile environments, and combat casualty care.

In turn, Acting German Ambassador praised the participants’ “high caliber” and the strong military and training ties between Jordan and Germany, noting such joint programs enhance defense capacities of both countries’ Armed Forces.

The graduation ceremony, attended by the German Military Attaché and senior REC officers, concluded with the distribution of certificates.

The course, organized for the first time in cooperation with the German peacekeeping forces team, represents a milestone in boosting JAF personnel’s ability to counter emerging explosive threats in line with the latest global standards and technologies. (Petra; QNA; Photo © QNA)
