Saudi, Egyptian Space Agencies Sign MoU for Cooperation in Peaceful Space Activities

The Saudi Space Agency (SSA) and the Egyptian Space Agency signed Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in space activities for peaceful purposes.

The MoU was signed at the headquarters of the Saudi Space Agency in Riyadh by SSA CEO Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, and Egyptian Space Agency CEO Dr. Sherif Sedky.

The MoU is set to provide a framework for cooperation in space activities, enhance areas of mutual interest related to the peaceful uses of space and facilitate the exchange of information and technologies, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

It also aims to develop cooperation in research and development in related fields, thus contributing to further achievements and expanding the two agencies’ collaboration in space and related technologies.

Reaching the Memorandum is part of SSA’s efforts to enhance international partnerships in order to contribute to the localization of technologies and industries, in line with the Agency’s objectives to develop the space sector and its technologies.

It is a continuation of cooperation between the two countries in various fields and sectors, which will contribute to increasing the economic and technical role of the space sector, and position both countries prominently in the field of space, at regional and global levels.

The Saudi Space Agency’s objectives align with the Kingdom’s aspirations for a more advanced quality of life, as they align with its vision to create better and safer environments for its citizens while creating new opportunities for more profitable innovations that support the Saudi economy.

The Saudi Space Agency’s strategy requires determining a set of primary goals that focus on space science and exploratory missions, creating new opportunities in the sector, and empowering national cadres to achieve growth and progress in a way that serves the country and humanity.

The Egyptian Space Agency was established in 2018 and is a Governmental Organization that aims at acquiring Space Technology and Satellite Launching capabilities towards the accomplishment of The National Sustainable Development Strategy “Egypt-SDS 2030” objectives.

The agency is targeting the promotion of the peaceful use of space, develop space systems at the national level through investment in human capital development, leveraging the space industry for a sustainable future, supporting research and development, drive innovations, as well as enhancing space outreach developing of reliable, responsive and viable economical solutions to serve the national objectives.
