Qatar, Greece Sign Military Cooperation Agreement

The Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Athens on Tuesday, on a state visit to Greece.

During his visit, HH the Amir and the Greek Prime Minister (photo) witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding conducting political consultations on issues of common interest between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece.

They also witnessed the signing of an agreement on military cooperation between the Ministry of Defence of Qatar and the Ministry of National Defence of Greece.

HH the Amir and the Prime Minister of Greece held a bilateral meeting, during which they discussed a host of topics of common concern, Qatar Tribune reported.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Transport HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and a number of members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir.

On the Greek side, the session was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis, Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Christos Stylianides, Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, and a number of senior officials.

On Wednesday, the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a meeting with President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou at the Presidential Mansion in Athens, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

At the outset of the session, the Greek President welcomed HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation, noting the great development witnessed in the relations between the two countries and voicing her hope that this important visit of HH the Amir to Greece will push bilateral cooperation to the level to which the two friendly countries aspire.

For his part, HH the Amir thanked the President for the warm reception and hospitality with which he and his accompanying delegation were accorded.

HH the Amir stressed his keenness to continue strengthening the distinguished friendship relations between the two countries, which have exceeded 50 years, and to expand the horizons of fruitful cooperation between them for the benefit of their friendly peoples.

During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them at all levels, especially in areas of economy and investment. They also discussed the developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
