With the R&S SDxR family, Rohde & Schwarz has brought a new generation of software defined radios to the international market. The radios, together with the R&S HDR family of high data rate, jam-resistant waveforms, are fully IP-capable, allowing their seamless integration into existing networks.

At the ongoing Eurosatory 2014 (Paris, 16-20 June 2014), Rohde & Schwarz is presenting the R&S SDTR as a key element for network centric operations and for platform integration.

The R&S SDTR is the first member of a new generation of software defined radios for the VHF/UHF range. It has been optimized for use in vehicles and for semimobile applications. At Eurosatory, Rohde & Schwarz is showcasing this tactical vehicular radio as a central element for use in mobile platforms and as part of battle management systems (BMS) from various manufacturers. Together with the tried and tested R&S M3TR radio system for the HF range, it is possible to ensure reliable communications even under challenging topographic conditions.

The R&S SDTR is an open platform based on the software communications architecture (SCA) standard. This makes it possible to port both standardized and proprietary waveforms to the radio, enabling interoperability with allied forces as required during missions.

In combination with the R&S HDR high data rate waveform family, the R&S SDTR can be customized to meet the requirements of the particular mission scenario. An external control unit can be used to remotely operate multiple vehicular tactical radios both from the R&S SDTR and R&S M3TR families. The control unit has been optimized for great operating ease and flexibility.

Thanks to the unique security concept from Rohde & Schwarz, users can rely on secure, stable communications. Highly secure encryption techniques combined with frequency hopping methods safeguard communications against jamming, reconnaissance and tapping.

The same holds true for communications links to command and control centers with their associated data centers outside the actual mission area: The R&S SITLine ETH series from Rohde & Schwarz SIT, a Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary, is available for encrypting data transmitted via Ethernet over landlines, radio or satellite. The new R&S SITLine ETH40G high speed solution rounds out the product family. It is the world’s first Ethernet encryptor featuring 40 Gbit/s data throughput. In this way, both tactical and strategic communications remain fully confidential.
