Thomas Homberg Named Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland
01.08.2012 New Appointments
Effective today, Thomas Homberg (46) will take over the role of Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland GmbH and Executive Group Director Improvement. In this new role he will also be a member of the MBDA Executive Committee.
Thomas Homberg is a former paratrooper and General Staff Officer of the Bundeswehr. He completed his training as a General Staff Officer in Germany and France.
As Military Attaché at the German embassy in Paris, he dealt with issues of defense and security policy.
Thomas Homberg joined EADS in 2003, and became Head of Group Strategy in 2008.
Thomas Homberg succeeds Werner Kaltenegger, who has elected to retire after eleven years as Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland.
“On behalf of the entire management of MBDA, I would like to sincerely thank Werner Kaltenegger for his personal dedication, his energy and commitment to MBDA, MBDA Deutschland and the Group-wide improvement activities. He played a vital role in making MBDA Deutschland a profitable company and thus a valuable part of MBDA,” said Antoine Bouvier, CEO of MBDA.
“I’m firmly convinced that with his military background and experience at EADS, Thomas Homberg will also make an enormous contribution to the further success of our business,” he added.
MBDA is the only group capable of designing and producing missiles and missile systems that correspond to the full range of current and future operational needs of the three armed forces (land, sea and air). In total, the group offers a range of 45 missile systems and countermeasures products already in operational service and more than 15 others currently in development.
With a significant presence in five European countries and within the USA, in 2011 MBDA achieved a turnover of € 3 billion with an order book of € 10.5 billion. With more than 90 armed forces customers in the world, MBDA is a world leader in missiles and missile systems.
MBDA is jointly owned by BAE Systems (37.5%), EADS (37.5%) and Finmeccanica (25%).
