AS&E Wins Cargo, X-ray System Order in the Middle East
28.10.2013 MENA
American Science and Engineering, Inc. (&E), a leading worldwide supplier of innovative X-ray detection solutions, has received a $6.2 million order for a ZBV®mobile screening system, a Z Portal® cargo and vehicle screening system, and multiple Gemini® parcel X-ray inspection systems, to secure the perimeter surrounding a high-profile summit in the Middle East.
The ZBV and Z Portal systems will be used at perimeter checkpoints to screen vehicles and cargo and the Gemini systems will be used at interior checkpoints to inspect parcels and baggage; after the summit, the systems will remain in place.
“We are working closely with our client to provide a full-range of inspection solutions for security at this important Middle East Summit,” said Chuck Dougherty, AS&E’s President and CEO.
“Our proven cargo screening systems and the multi-technology Gemini parcel systems are uniquely suited for critical infrastructure and high-threat security applications and continue to provide the highest level of detection capability for security agencies around the world,” he added.
Representing a breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E’s ZBV system is the number one selling cargo and vehicle inspection system on the market, with more than 650 systems sold to 128 different customers in 60 countries. The ZBV system is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. It allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The ZBV system employs leading-edge technologies covered by numerous patents, in-force and pending, around the world.
The Z Portal system is the most comprehensive screening system available with multi-view, drive-through screening for left, right, and top-down imaging of cars, vans, trucks, and their cargo. The Z Portal system’s patented Z Backscatter™ technology provides superior detection capability of explosives, drugs, stowaways, and other contraband. With its compact design, the Z Portal system is ideal for high-traffic locations with space constraints and a high-throughput requirement and is safe for drivers, operators, cargo, and the environment. The relocatable screening system is available in two sizes — one for large trucks, buses, and cargo vehicles, and a smaller size for passenger vehicles. Customers include U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, and NATO.
The Gemini parcel inspection system is the lowest cost multi-technology parcel inspection system on the market and the only system to combine AS&E’s Z Backscatter™ technology and dual-energy transmission.
