Deputizing for His Majesty the King of Jordan, HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein led Sunday the opening of the Levitate Conference and Exhibition, the premier event for the drone industry in Jordan and the region.
The two-day conference and exhibition (16-17 July), the first of its kind in Jordan and the region, is organised by the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX), and powered by Sager, a drone solution company.
Prince Faisal toured the exhibition’s facilities, where he was briefed on the latest drone technologies in Jordan and the region.
The conference, with wide Arab and international participation, is the first platform that brings together drone enthusiasts, sector leaders, companies, government officials and military leaders, Petra news agency reported.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, Director of General of Intelligence, Major General Ahmad Hosni and Public Security Director, Major General Obaidullah Maaytah.
In opening remarks, Minister of Digital Economy Ahmad Hanandeh said that the Arab region is witnessing the rapid use of smart robotic technologies in various sectors, especially innovative solutions provided by drone technology.
He stressed the need to come up with common visions between various institutions to introduce legislation and policies to regulate this industry, through familiarizing with best practices and exchanging expertise and solutions used across the world.
“Through this conference, we seek to expand the partnership base at the regional and international levels as an embodiment of His majesty King Abdullah's vision and directives to increase the pace of development and build economic alliances incorporating technology companies, and authorities concerned with legislation and policies, in addition to government and security institutions,” said SOFEX Vice Chairman, Director General of Jordan Design and Development Bureau, Ayman Al-Batran.
For his part, Sager Drone CEO Yousef Amoura said that drones have become “a huge part” of various industries including agriculture, logistics and security.
Looking at the “bigger picture”, Amoura noted that the drone industry will create a significant number of job opportunities.
The conference also featured a number of panel discussions on the revolutionary power of drones in energy, agriculture and infrastructure endeavours, as well as the future of the industry and investments in drone-based technology.
