Jordanian King Receives Chief of Malaysia’s Defence Forces; Chairs National Security Council Meeting

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday received General Mohammad Ab Rahman, the Chief of Malaysia’s Defense Forces.

The meeting covered bilateral ties and means to expand defense cooperation, as well as the latest developments in the region.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti attended the meeting, Petra news agency reported.

Earlier, Major General Huneiti received Monday a Malaysian delegation, led by Chief of Defence Forces, and discussed prospects of cooperation and coordination in military fields.

They also talked about regional and international developments that impact the interests of the armed forces on both countries.

Huneiti outlined future plans to enhance joint cooperation through agreements, military exercises and courses to develop defense systems and boost capabilities.

Rahman highlighted his country’s strong ties with Jordan, commending the Kingdom’s key role in combating terrorism and extremism, and its efforts to bring about regional security and stability.

They also went over presentations on the modernization and development of the Jordan Armed Forces, aligning with the nature of regional developments.

In another development, His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday chaired a National Security Council meeting, which covered current regional developments and escalation in the region.

The Council, established in accordance with Article 122 of the Constitution, is mandated with the higher affairs relating to security, defense and foreign policy, and consists of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Interior, the Chief of Armed Forces, the Director of Intelligence, the Director of Public Security, and two members appointed by Royal Decree.

A Royal Decree has been issued, appointing the Royal Hashemite Court Chief and the Director of the Office of His Majesty as members of the National Security Council for two years, as of 7 August 2024.
