The AeroSquad Club at Al-Hussein Technical University, an initiative by the Crown Prince Foundation supported by the Boeing Company organized its first aviation event entitled: “UAVs Industrial and Academic Development in Jordan”.

The event was attended by students from various Jordanian universities, in addition to experts in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and members of the university’s academic staff.

The event, which was held at the university’s campus in the King Hussein Business Park, Amman, featured an overview of the club and its activities, a welcome speech by the President of Al-Hussein Technical University Dr. Ismail Al Hinti, a panel discussion on the latest developments in aviation sciences and UAVs technologies, and project displays by students of the AeroSquad Club.

Supported by the American aerospace company Boeing, the event aimed to attract people from different sectors and ages who are interested in the field. It also encouraged participation in aviation activities, by providing the appropriate environment and opportunities to experience flying UAVs remotely.

During the event, the President of the University praised Boeing’s support and experts’ participation. He mentioned that the field of aviation, especially UAVs, is very important and is growing rapidly. He also said that major aerospace manufacturers and aviation service providers are in need for university graduates who have the right industry knowledge and are ready to enter the labor market.

He stressed that the university is working on enhancing the capabilities of its students to match the requirements of the labor market. With the help of its partners, the University will be able to provide young people with the latest technology applications and programs in the field of aviation, and work on enhancing their capabilities through practical exercises. He pointed out the existence of a flight simulation program for various aircraft, which in turn provides the opportunity for students and others to experience flying an aircraft and learn about winged and quadcopter aircraft and how they are manufactured and built.

Ghazi Al-Murr, President of the AeroSquad Club and a student at the university said that more than ten students and members of the club from different disciplinaries have worked hard to put the event together and made sure that they invite as many Jordanian youths as possible, by contacting a number of local companies and specialized universities.

“This event is unique because it presents displays of UAVs that were designed and built in Jordan, including a special aircraft that was designed by Jordanian Engineer Raji Mazahra at his house’s storage room and put together at Al Hussein Technical University workshops with help from its students,” Al-Murr added.

It is worth mentioning that Al-Hussein Technical University is the most recent Jordanian technical university to open. It was established in 2016, as an initiative by the Crown Prince Foundation, to award bachelor’s degrees and intermediate university degrees in the subjects of engineering and computer science.
