Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, signed a military cooperation agreement with his Egyptian counterpart, General Abdel Meguid Sakr, Egypt’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense (photo), during his official visit to Cairo.
The signing ceremony took place on Sunday at the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority in Al-Masa. According to a statement published by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), it aims to unify efforts, enhance coordination, and improve the operational systems between the two nations’ Armed Forces.
The agreement is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen military cooperation and boost defense capabilities to address regional security challenges. Sheikh Fahad and General Sakr emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise and coordinating efforts to ensure greater security and stability in the region.
During his visit, Sheikh Fahad also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The two leaders discussed the longstanding relations between Kuwait and Egypt, reviewing the latest developments on both regional and international fronts. Sheikh Fahad conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, to President Al-Sisi, wishing continued prosperity for the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Sheikh Fahad’s delegation was welcomed on Saturday evening in Cairo by Major General Abd El-Moaty Abd El-Aziz Allam, Commander of the Central Military Zone, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Egypt Ghanem Al-Ghanem, and other senior officials. Sheikh Fahad also visited the Unknown Soldier Memorial to honor Egypt’s fallen soldiers and laid a wreath in tribute to their sacrifice. Additionally, he paid respects at the tomb of late President Anwar Sadat, praising his vital role in Egypt’s national history.
In a separate meeting with Egyptian Minister of Interior Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef discussed a range of security issues, highlighting the importance of continued mutual visits and collaboration to further enhance security cooperation between Kuwait and Egypt.
Major General Tawfiq warmly welcomed Sheikh Fahad, emphasizing the significance of their longstanding bilateral relationship and shared commitment to regional stability. He commended Kuwait’s steadfast and principled support for Arab causes. Both officials acknowledged the critical need for joint efforts to tackle current and emerging security challenges, stressing the collective responsibility to combat and mitigate crime in all its forms.
