Algeria, US Military Command for Africa (AFRICOM) Sign MoU for Military Cooperation

General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Algeria’National Defense, Chief of People’s National Army Staff, received in audience Wednesday, at the headquarters of People’s National Army Staff, General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the United States Military Command for Africa (US-AFRICOM).

The welcoming ceremony began with the salute of the national colors before a detachment of the various Forces of People’s National Army paid military honors to General Michael Langley.

During this meeting, which was attended by the Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of National Defence, the Force Commanders, the Heads of Departments and Central Directors of the Ministry of National Defence and the General Staff of People’s National Army, as well as members of the American delegation, the two parties examined the state of bilateral military cooperation and exchanged views on issues of common interest.

At the end, General Chanegriha delivered a speech in which he welcomed the Commander of AFRICOM and the delegation accompanying him, as well as congratulating the friendly American people, following the installation of the 47th President of the United States, the Algerian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

“First of all, it is a pleasure for me to welcome you to Algeria and to take this opportunity to express my best wishes for the New Year, which we hope will see the realization of all our aspirations for success, security, peace and progress throughout the world,” General Chanegriha said.

“I would also like to extend to you and the friendly American people our most sincere congratulations, following the installation of the 47th President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald TRUMP, by reiterating our aspiration for the strengthening of bilateral relations in the various fields, including defence and security.

Furthermore, we would like to assure the United States, government and people, of our deep sympathy and solidarity, following the recent fires that affected the State of California and the great material and human damage they caused. Likewise, we wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” he added.

General Chanegriha mentioned the depth of the historical relations between the two countries, and welcomed the positive dynamics currently experienced by bilateral military cooperation:

“The partnership between the two countries is currently experiencing positive dynamics in the various fields, including defence and security. This dynamic reflects our desire to promote this partnership at higher levels, in the service of the interests of both countries.

In this regard, we welcome the excellence of Algerian-American military relations, based on rationality, pragmatism, constructive dialogue, with the aim of establishing a lasting partnership,” he noted.

For his part, General Michael Langley expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Algeria and his aspiration to consolidate military cooperation relations. He also welcomed the level of multidimensional coordination between the two parties and the contribution of People’s National Army to establishing security and peace in the region.

At the end, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of military cooperation was signed between the Ministry of National Defence of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria and the US Department of Defence. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of Defence)
