At the invitation of the General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Indian Armed Forces Defence Staff Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs of India, General Said Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Algerian National Defence, Chief of People’s National Army Staff, paid an official visit to the Republic of India which lasted for several days.
During this visit, which is part of strengthening of cooperation between People’s National Army and the Indian Army, the two sides discussed issues of common interest.
On the second day of his visit, General Chanegriha toured the Goa Shipyard Limited GSL shipyard on Thursday, 6th February, 2025, the Algerian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
After being welcomed by the Director of this industrial company, General Chanegriha visited an exhibition of photographs and models that illustrate the construction of ships within this company, including archive photos tracing the different stages of the development of the naval industry in India, as well as plans and technical diagrams highlighting the technologies used in the construction of modern ships.
The Director of Goa Shipyard presented to General Chanegriha and the delegation accompanying him a detailed presentation on the different missions, departments and productions of this important industrial establishment. the General also received explanations provided by engineers and military experts on the materials used, the armament systems, as well as the defensive and offensive capabilities of his ships, before both sides exchanged symbolic gifts.
Subsequently, General Chanegriha visited the various workshops of the shipyard, where he received detailed explanations on the working methods and advanced technologies available at this establishment.
Afterwards, General Chanegriha went to the Goa Naval Air Base, where he was welcomed by the Base Commander, Rear Admiral Ajay D. Theophilus. After the welcoming ceremony, General Chanegriha received detailed explanations on the operational missions of the base and its strategic role in securing Indian territorial waters and airspace. The explanations particularly focused on the surveillance, control and coordination systems between the naval and air forces in the execution of joint missions.
On the third day of his visit, General Chanegriha was received Friday by General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Staff of Defence of the Indian Armed Forces.
General Chauhan visited the National War Memorial in the Indian Capital New Delhi. After receiving explanations on the history of this monument, General Chanegriha laid a wreath and observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes commemorated by this memorial.
At the headquarters of the Indian Defence Staff, the two sides held discussions on ways to consolidate military cooperation between the two countries, before extending the discussions to the delegations of the two countries, in the presence of the Commanders of the Indian Armed Forces and members of the Algerian military delegation as well as the Algerian Ambassador to the Republic of India, Ali Achoui, in order to assess the bilateral military cooperation between Algeria and India.
During this meeting, General Chanegriha delivered a speech in which he expressed his consideration and gratitude for the warm welcome given to him and the accompanying delegation, hoping that this visit will contribute to deepening the ties of cooperation between the two countries:
“Indeed, Algeria considers India as a model of progress and development in various fields, from technology to industry, thus opening up prospects for our two countries to examine ways to consolidate our bilateral relations and our military cooperation,” he said.
For his part, General Anil Chauhan expressed his joy in welcoming his Algerian Guest, praising the quality of bilateral relations between the two countries, before emphasizing his aspiration to further enhance them in the future.
On the fourth day of his visit, General Chanegriha and the high-level military delegation accompanying him, visited Saturday “BHARAT FORGE LIMITED” and “LARSEN AND TOUBRO” companies. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of National Defence)
