Iraqi President Receives British Defense Secretary

Iraqi President Fuad Masum conferred Wednesday with British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon (photo).

A statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency said that the two sides discussed the overall security and political developments, especially the preparations taking place to liberate the city of Mosul from ISIS elements.

The British Defense Secretary expressed his country’s readiness to work together with Iraq in training Iraqi forces and in enhancing their capabilities.

Meanwhile, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, met the Permanent Secretary of the UK Home Office, Mark Sedwill.

They discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and ways to enhance co-operation in the areas of policing and security, UAE national news agency WAM reported.

Sedwill praised the relations between the two countries, and also conveyed to Sheikh Saif greetings from Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who was the former Home Secretary.

Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, attended the meeting along with a number of officials.
