At Arar airport, he was received by Undersecretary of the Northern Border Region Governorate Saleh bin Abdulkareem Al-Mihaimeed; Chief of General Staff General Abdulrahman bin Saleh Al-Bunyan; Commander of the Northern Region Major General Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Mutair; Commander of the Tactical Force of the Northern Border Major General Misbel bin Sultan Al-Amri; Leader of the37th Battalion of the National Guard Falah bin Mishaal bin Hithlain; and Director of Northern Border Police Major General Dhaifullah Al-Otaibi.
The Minister of Defense inspected the Apache aircraft squadron, the Falcon drones, tactical command, Reconnaissance airship vehicle, and the 35th and 36th duty force equipment.
He discussed with the Commanders and Senior Officers of the Northern Region the requirements and needs of the Armed Force in their region, instructing the prompt building of additional military housing for the personnel of the Armed Forces in Hafrulbaten, Tiraif and Arar.
He underscored the importance of upgrading the preparedness and vigilance degree of the armed forces through continuous training according to the state-of-the-art systems in the defense of the nation and preservation of its possessions.
Prince Mohammed was appointed Minister of Defense on 23 January 2015. He was also named as the Secretary General of the Royal Court on the same date. In addition he retained his post as the Minister of the State.
On 29 January 2015 Prince Mohammed was named the Chair of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs which was established on the same date and which replaced the disbanded Supreme Economic Commission.
Prince Mohammed established the “Prince Mohammed bin Salman Foundation," otherwise known as MISK, which is meant to help needy youth.
Prince Mohammed is the youngest Minister of Defense in the world.
