Dubai foiled an attempt to smuggle 16,000 guns from Turkey to Yemen, the emirate’s Police Chief Dahi Khalfan told a press conference Thursday.
The smugglers were arrested, he said, including six Arabs residing in the UAE.
The shipment was destined for Sa’ada (Yemen), Khalfan said.
Yemen has seen seven weeks of violent protests against the 32-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, prompting Saleh to sack his cabinet and declare a state of emergency.
