Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Hunaiti said Tuesday the Jordanian borders are equipped with the latest devices, equipment, weapons and communications necessary to ensure border security.

According to a statement, Hunaiti added that the Armed Forces would counter attempts to undermine Jordan's security and stability, noting that development and modernisation operations on the border are based on strategic plans.

During a visit to the Command of the Royal Border Guard Battalion/11 (photo), one of the units of the Northern Military Region, he listened to briefings on the progress of programmes and operational, training and logistical matters and military unit efforts to enhance border security and measures to prevent infiltration and smuggling operations.

On Wednesday, Major General Yousef Huneiti, also visited the Royal 5th Border Guard Battalion, a unit of the Eastern Military Zone where he was welcomed by the Zone’s Commander, Petra news agency reported.

In the presence of a number of Senior Army Officers, Major General Huneiti inspected the Al-Nashama border fence along the eastern border front of the Kingdom, which contributes to countering infiltration attempts and the smuggling of weapons and narcotics, stressing that the Jordan Armed Forces Arab Army (JAF) is committed to defending the homeland at any cost.

Huneiti was briefed on the Zone's efforts to counter various infiltration and smuggling operations, which include the use of drones and vehicles prepared and equipped for smuggling, in addition to the progress of operational and logistical matters in the zone's formations and units, in order to enhance their ability to carry out their tasks and duties efficiently and effectively.

Major General Huneiti toured the Zone’s front and inspected the readiness of the Border Guards and the qualitative forces that support them in their security duty, lauding their efforts, especially those related to coordination between various security and military agencies to counter and prevent infiltration and smuggling attempts.

He also recalled the martyrs of the Arab Army from the Border Guard Forces who gave their lives in defense of their homeland.

The Army Chief also met with the Battalion's Officers and conveyed to them the greetings and pride of His Majesty the Supreme Commander, commending their outstanding level and high morale and their great efforts in various locations to stand united in the face of all those who try to tamper with the security and stability of the homeland with strength and firmness.

In another development, the Royal Jordanian Navy and the Pakistan Navy wrapped up joint drills on Tuesday, with the participation of the combat boat and frogmen groups, according to a statement.

The exercise aims to unify military concepts and exchange experiences, develop the capabilities of the participants and qualify them for rapid operational response in a complex and multi-tasking maritime operations environment.

The exercise comprised storming and inspecting ships, protecting maritime navigation lines, combating piracy and smuggling, protecting sensitive vital facilities and sites and field medical rescue and evacuation operations.
