Commander of the Belarusian Air Force, Major General Andrei Yulianovich Lukyanovich, has met with senior Iranian military officials in Tehran to discuss defense cooperation as well as threats facing both countries.
General Lukyanovich, who is also the Commander of Belarus’ Air Defense Force, met with Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi, the Chief Commander of the Iranian Army this past week.
The meeting focused on the shared threats and common interests faced by both Iran and Belarus, including imposed by the United States and its European allies, IRNA news agency reported.
General Mousavi highlighted Belarus’ strategic position as a barrier against NATO’s expansion, saying that the Islamic Republic is also opposed to the enlargement of the US-led military alliance.
Lukyanovich, in response, reiterated his country’s opposition to American unilateralism and NATO’s expansion. He also said that Belarus is committed to deepening military ties with Iran.
Additionally, the Belarusian Commander visited the Iranian Air Force Headquarters, where he met with Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, the Commander of the Iranian Air Force.
General Vahedi said Iran and Belarus have the same views on regional and global challenges. Lukyanovich also expressed Belarus’ desire to expand military and defense cooperation with Iran’s Armed Forces.
For his part, Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force (IRIADF) has said that his country is ready to develop defense and military relations with the Republic of Belarus.
According to IRNA’s Thursday report, the Iranian Commander made the remark in a meeting with Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Republic of Belarus Major General Andrey Lukyanovich in the capital Tehran.
Lastly, a high-level Iranian delegation has arrived in Russia to take part in the 10th International Military-Technical Forum “ARMY-2024”.
