On March 5, 2024, during the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition (DIMDEX), a contract signature ceremony was held between the Qatari Emiri Navy and DEARSAN Shipyard within the scope of design and build project of 2 units of 50-meter Fast Attack Craft (FAC50).

The ceremony was attended by the Commander of Qatari Emiri Navy H.E. Major General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, President of Defence Industry Agency (SSB) Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, along with DEARSAN Chairman Mr. Aziz Yildirim (photo).

The Preliminary Design Evaluation process was completed on July 3, 2024, and the Critical Design Evaluation phase was finalized on November 28, 2024.

On December 23, 2024, the Keel Laying Ceremony for the two 50-meter Fast Attack Craft was held at DEARSAN Shipyard, with the participation of the Qatar state delegation led by Major General Abdullah Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Navy.

Capable of undertaking effective missions in the scope of Asymmetric Warfare, Patrol, Protection of Territorial Waters, Anti Piracy, Reconnaissance and Surveillance, Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief Operations, Border Control and Base/Port Security, the Fast Attack Crafts will be equipped with weapon systems for Surface, Air Defence and Asymmetric Warfare.

The boats, measuring 50.76 meters in length, 9.53 meters in width, with a 2.10-meter draft, a maximum speed of 36 knots, and a range of 1,000 nautical miles, are designed to operate effectively in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Arabian Sea.

The primary missions of the FAC50 include:

  • Surface warfare with guided missiles and a 40 mm cannon
  • Air defense warfare with anti-air guided missiles
  • Asymmetric warfare with 12.7 mm stabilized and manual machine guns
  • Electronic warfare with an Electronic Support System in areas around Qatar and the Persian Gulf

Secondary missions include patrolling, territorial waters protection, combating piracy, arms and drug trafficking, surveillance, and search and rescue operations in inland and coastal areas.

The DEARSAN-designed Qatar 50-meter Fast Attack Craft (FAC50) Project represents advanced technology vessels that will significantly enhance the naval capabilities of the Qatar Navy.

DEARSAN, is a modern shipyard, which operates in İstanbul, Turkey. DEARSAN Shipyard has the ability to build 9 ships of various types at the same time with its 126 m long skid, 15.341 m2 closed ship building site, 15,870 m2 open area and 31,211m2 total area.

DEARSAN specializes in the design and construction of private military ships, with the integration of weapon systems, as well as in the construction of complex commercial ships such as tugboats, fuel/chemical tankers, fast passenger ferries.

Since DEARSAN Shipyard was established in 1980, it has undertaken the construction, fabrication, repair and modification of numerous ships. In addition, the construction of the 57-meter 16 “Tuzla” Class Patrol Boats needed by the Turkish Navy is being carried out by DEARSAN’s shipyard in accordance with the delivery schedule determined.

In addition to the “Tuzla” Class Patrol Boats and derivatives, DEARSAN can design and build all of the following military ship types: Corvette Class Ships; Multipurpose Search and Rescue Ships; 12m, 15m and 17m Fast Intervention Boats; 27m, 33m, 42m Attack Boats; Armed Fast Patrol Boats; Hydrographic and Oceanographic Research Ship; Offshore Support Ship; Offshore Patrol Ship; Mine Hunting and Minesweeper; Landing Craft.
