Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Hunaiti and the Commander of the US Africa Command, Lieutenant General Michael Langley, held talks in Amman on Wednesday.
Hunaiti discussed cooperation with Langley and a US delegation, noting Jordan’s “deep” ties with the US.
Langley lauded Jordan’s Armed Forces' modernisation and development process amid regional challenges, Petra news agency reported.
For his part, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of People’s National Army Staff, received in audience, this Tuesday, 23 July 2024, at the headquarters of the General Staff of People’s Army National (PNA), the AFRICOM Commander (photo) during a working visit to Algeria, at the head of a large military delegation.
The welcoming ceremony began with the salute of the national flag, and military honours, presented to the host by formations representing the different Forces of People’s National Army, the Algerian Ministry of Defence reported.
The two parties discussed the security challenges facing the African continent. They also exchanged points of view on issues of common interest and ways to consolidate military cooperation relations between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, Force Commanders, Chiefs of Departments and Central Directors of the General Staff of People's National Army and the Ministry of Defence, National Defence, members of the American military delegation and Her Excellency the Ambassador of the United States in Algiers.
On this occasion, General Chanegriha delivered a speech, through which he welcomed the host delegation, emphasizing that Algeria was continuing its efforts aimed at strengthening common African action, in the fight and prevention against terrorism and that it has launched several initiatives to consolidate African security cooperation mechanisms:
“I would like, first of all, to welcome you to the headquarters of the General Staff of People's National Army, on the occasion of your second visit to Algeria, since your nomination as Commander of the AFRICOM, which demonstrates the excellence of bilateral military cooperation, marked by pragmatism and respect for mutual interests.
Taking into account that Algeria is entrusted with the mission of coordinator through a mandate from the African Union, for the continental fight against terrorism and violent extremism, it continues its efforts aimed at contributing to the strengthening of African action common, in the field of combating the terrorist threat on all levels.
This mandate allowed Algeria to launch several initiatives, such as the action plan for the African Union in the fight against terrorism, the activation of the African fund for the fight against terrorism, the establishment of an African list of persons and entities involved in terrorist acts and the implementation of an African arrest warrant”.
The General reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting any African initiative and to supporting the efforts of the African Union authorities to enable the Continent to rise to the security challenges it faces:
“In conclusion, I would like to reiterate my country's commitment to supporting any African initiative and supporting the efforts of the African Union authorities to enable the Continent to raise to the security challenges it faces. I assure you of our complete availability to consolidate our bilateral military cooperation, with a view to consulting further on the ways and means to realistically achieve the security objectives of the Continent in general and the North Africa region especially”.
For his part, the AFRICOM Commander expressed his satisfaction with this visit to Algeria, which allowed him to examine with the PNA High Command the various security issues arising on the regional and international scenes, in highlighting the means of both parties to develop bilateral military cooperation.
